Moonlighting

A variety of opportunities exist for second- and third-year residents to learn new skills and earn extra income.

Moonlighting shifts are available at St. Joseph’s Hospital from Friday at 5:00 pm through Monday at 8:00 am and holidays.  The moonlighter schedule is created by residents and filled on a volunteer basis.

During these shifts, the moonlighter resident is responsible for:

• Running all codes

• Providing back-ups to the OB resident

• Assisting the first-year house officer with critical patients

Some residents also work shifts at community urgent care clinics or in rural emergency rooms. Residents find these shifts to be a valuable supplement to their education by providing more opportunity for splinting and laceration repairs, as well as treating common outpatient ailments. Moonlighting also provides residents the opportunity to gain confidence in clinical decision-making.
