Workshops and Conferences
The Department of Family Medicine and Community Health organizes several one and two-day workshops each year, including ALSO (Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics), clinical neuropsychopharmacology, colposcopy, community medicine, diabetes management, emergency procedures, obstetrical ultrasound, occupational medicine, practice management/systems-based practice, sexual counseling, and sports medicine. All of these workshops are mandatory for successful completion of residency, and they are scheduled during the first and second years of residency to interfere the least with rotational educational opportunities. For more information on these Departmental or Programmatic Courses, please visit CME and Department Courses.
The annual Family Medicine Review:Update is a five-day course required for all third-year residents. Second-year residents have the option of attending the Minnesota Academy of Family Physicians' annual Spring Refresher.
Residents are allowed up to three days of time to attend medical conferences that explore or further a medical interest. Conferences must be approved in advance by the program director. Recent conferences attended by our residents have covered the topics of colposcopy, dermatology for primary care physicians, international medicine, marathon medical management (specifically the Twin Cities Marathon), orthopedics in primary care, sports medicine, and wilderness medicine,
