Required Steps

The department has two requirements that must be met by all faculty members developing a grant proposal:

1. Complete the Intent to Submit form by the specified deadline.
This form serves to:

  • Notify the department head, research directors, grant accountant, and your  program director of your intent to submit a grant for a particular due date.
  • Collect preliminary information about your project's budget needs and your plans to use research services for the proposal’s development.
  • Identify high volume grant submission periods for the department, triggering the need for backup resources.
2. Meet deadline for proposal completion and delivery to Finance
This deadline ensures that all of the final administrative steps required for a proposal’s submission can be completed, even during high volume grant periods. These steps include:
  • Review budget and justifications, sponsor requirements, cost-sharing arrangements, subcontracts, page limits.
  • For grants.gov and other electronic submissions, convert files for electronic submission.
  • Route proposal and collect signatures from department heads and deans of all named investigators on the project.
  • Deliver required number of copies of the full proposal to Sponsored Projects Administration.
  • Administrative review by SPA, which requires five working days for grants.gov submissions.

3. If any of the standard deadlines for steps 1 and 2 cannot be met, follow the procedures for a "Rapid Response Proposal."
