We are always interested in working with undergraduate, graduate, and medical students interested in the field of sexual health.
Here are a few of the many possible projects that volunteers could work on:
Development of the CSBI
PHS faculty members have developed an instrument for use in identifying people with compulsive sexual behaviors. We are currently seeking a volunteer research assistant to help in recruiting participants and collecting data for an examination of this instrument. Course credit is available for this opportunity.
CSB SCID Study
This ongoing study seeks to validate a structured clinical interview for the identification of people with compulsive sexual behaviors. We need volunteers to recruit participants and schedule interviews. Graduate or medical students could also receive training to conduct interviews and participate in the data collection. Course credit is available for this opportunity.
Sex Offender Recidivism Study
Did you know that PHS has been treating sex offenders for over 30 years? We are conducting a study to examine the recidivism rates of the people we have treated and are seeking volunteers for help in this project.
These are just a few of our projects. We also are involved in research in sexual and relationship dysfunction, intimacy dysfunction, sexual abuse, child and adolescent sexual problems, conflict or confusion regarding sexual orientation, paraphilia, gender dysphoria and HIV.
For each of these volunteer opportunities, one must complete HIPAA and Human Subjects Training, as well as a volunteer contract. If you are interested in one of these projects, or in learning more about possible opportunities in another area of sexual health, please contact our research fellow at phsresearch@umn.edu.
