Major Traffic Changes Due to Bridge Collapse
Because of the I-35W bridge collapse, Highway 280 has become the primary route to replace northbound and southbound I-35W traffic. Highway 280 carries traffic from I-35W in Roseville to Interstate 94.

Highway 280 has been converted to a temporary freeway with no traffic signals. This means Broadway Avenue and County Road B no longer have access to the highway, and the lights at these intersections stay green for the highway.

North of the collapsed bridge, traffic on I-35W stops at the Stinson/New Brighton Boulevard exits. South of the bridge, all northbound I-35W traffic has to exit onto eastbound I-94. In addition, the ramp from Hennepin Avenue to southbound I-35W is closed.

From the North on I-35W

Take Highway 280 south to 94 going west. Heading west on 94, take the 5th St. S. exit. Exit at 5th St. S., stay in right lane, turn right on 11th Ave. S.  in front of the Metrodome. Turn right on 2nd St. S.

Or

Take I-35 South to 4th St. SE exit. Turn right on 4th St. SE. Go 8 blocks to Central Ave. NE. Turn left on Central Ave. NE. and follow it over the river to 2nd St. S. Turn left on 2nd St. S.

From the North on I-94

Take the 4th St. N. exit, #230. Take 4th St. to 3rd Ave. S. Turn left on 3rd Ave. S. Turn right on 2nd St. S.

From the South on I-35W

Exit at Washington Ave. S., exit #17C. Turn left on Washington Ave. S. Go 1 block, turn right on 12th Ave S. Go 1 block, turn right on 2nd St. S.

From the West on I-394

Heading east on I-394 to the downtown exits, take the 3rd Ave. S./Washington Ave. S. exit, #9C. Take the Washington Ave. S. ramp. Turn right on Washington Avenue. Turn left on 11th Ave. S. Turn right on 2nd St. S.

From the East on I-94

Heading west on I-94, take the 5th St. S. exit. Exit at 5th St., stay in right lane, turn right on 11th Ave. S. in front of the Metrodome. Turn right on 2nd St. S.
